Don't think you need a Personal Health Record?
Ask yourself these questions:
Do you live alone?
Wear contact lenses?
Take vitamins or herbal supplements?
Have allergies?
What if you got sick or injured? How would anyone know to remove your contact lenses to avoid injury to your eyes? Or be aware of possible negative reactions from mixing a life-saving drug with the supplements you take, or know what you are allergic to?
Do you have an infant or young child?
What if you were home alone with your child when he or she suddenly became ill or injured and needed emergency care? During a panic situation, would you remember all the latest important details about your child’s health, such as recent immunizations, allergies, current medications or other conditions?
Do you play sports, jog, ride your bike or hike in the woods?
What if you were injured and needed emergency care? What if you were unable to speak? How would anyone know if you had any medical conditions, or what medications you take?
Consider this:
Creating a Personal Health Record for your children is a smart thing to do. It’s an ideal way for you to keep track of their allergies, vaccinations, medications and any other health events. It’s also a convenient way to keep daycare facilities, camps, schools and colleges up to date on your child’s health. |
