Security Matters The Health Assessment and Personal Health Record (PHR) reside on secure Web sites hosted and maintained by Aetna and UnitedHealthcare, the providers of these tools. Both carriers are covered by HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), the federal law that spells out strict consumer privacy and security requirements. These requirements are ingrained in both Aetna’s and UnitedHealthcare’s core values and business operations. As a result, extensive operational and technical protections for your information are in place as part of their existing commitment to information privacy. This includes a secure member registration and log-in procedure, along with other technical protections to help ensure privacy of personal health information. The data in the Health Assessment and the Personal Health Record is kept strictly confidential in accordance with health plan privacy policies and federal and state laws. It is only for UPSers, their covered family members and the people who care for them (a doctor, for example) or support them (such as a registered nurse or health coach) in their quest for a healthier life. Federal law protects their right to keep this data private. This information may not be used for any employment purpose without an employee’s specific permission. Federal law does permit UPS, as the plan sponsor, to identify certain employees as needing access to this information to administer the health plan, such as to determine someone’s eligibility for benefits. |
